#1 Welcome and brief introduction to the Ki Shusui Project and the Oct. 2015 harvest by breeder Maxine Paetro. We hope to examine the potential parents for the long planned for 2016 spawn.
Here are three koi, two of which have been chosen for the controlled 2016 ki shusui spawn. The first fish is a strong-looking male. He doesn't have a lot of ki, but what he has is lemon-yellow or "atomic." The second fish is undetermined sex but has good qualities and will be kept in reserve. The third fish is a striking female and will be used in the spawn. All of these are first generation koi, bred in New York of Japanese parent.
Sweet Cheeks is a female, one of the F1 siblings from the 2012 spawn. In 2014, she was considered one of the best, but over winter, her ki vanished and she was only a pretty blue shusui. This year, her ki is coming back and she is again, one of my best girls with beautiful conformation and skin, and clear lemon-yellow ki. Sweet Cheeks comes from Japanese parents, and was bred and hatched here in New York. We hope her offspring will help stabilize this elusive variety.
Kishusui.com introduces you to "Baby Boy," a sibling of the other five koi we have selected for the 2016 breeding season of the Ki Shusui project. This is not a big fish but his proportions are good, his skin is like pale blue silk, and his ki is lemon-yellow on belly and fins. He is lovely to watch. We do not sell koi — or anything else. We breed ki shusui for the pleasure of it. Thank you for your interest in our fish.
This first fish is perhaps "midori-shusui." She has a yellow face and she does not have the linear markings of a shusui, however she is very pleasing to the eye and won "most unique" in competition. We will not breed her now, but keep her in reserve. The second ki shusui is a pet we call "Buddy." Buddy is male, a decent ki shusui with a strong body and good skin and his ki markings are linear. He has been chosen to take place in the 2016 ki shusui spawn.
A gorgeous young lady! Kishusui.com presents "Beyonce." I love this girl. As noted, she is small, but she is a good looker. When I yell, "She's clean," I mean that her skin is free of disfiguring sumi which came on in the winter of 2014-2015 and meant that we had to eliminate some of our best future parents. Beyonce is a keeper. Thanks for viewing the future parents of our hoped for 2016 spawn.
Avatar and Unique - Unique is a midori with a gorgeous blue zipper and very good skin. As John Clark says, she's "Pleasing to the eye." We probably won't use her in the 2016 spawn because we have enough ki shusui to use, but she is a favorite and a keeper. The other koi is a favorite male, nice and big with decent markings. We hope he chooses a mate with a better zipper, although he may also have some good zipper genes in his code.
