Ki Shusui Videos 2015

What's next? These six, 4 year-old ki shusui will be harvested in May 2016, transported to the a net basket in the nursery pond which is clean and ready for them. We hope there will be a good spawn and that in October, we will have many fry to photograph and admire. Watch this space...
Thanks for stopping by!

Here are some videos of the top koi from the 2015 Harvest. First an introduction by the breeder, Maxine Paetro. It's almost five minutes long. If you've been following the project, skip to videos of the six ki shusui that will be used in May 2016 as the parents of the next generation of Ki Shusui. Smile

Of course we will post results right here!

#1 Laughing  Enthusiastic intro by breeder to the the folks who were watching the 2015 Ki Shusui harvest live online.

#2 Introducing the female we call Sweet Cheeks. She was one of our top tosai in 2013. She lost her ki in 2014. Soooo disappointing. Then, in 2015, her ki began to return! She is a nice big girl and we hope she will make pretty babies.

#3 Three fish from the original 2012 spawn. The first and third will be in the 2016 spawn, and the all-yellow fish - a midori with very good dorsal scales -- is being held in reserve.

#4 Avatar and Unique - Unique is a midori with a gorgeous blue zipper and very good skin. As John Clark says, she's "Pleasing to the eye." We probably won't use her in the 2016 spawn because we have enough ki shusui to use, but she is a favorite and a keeper. The other koi is a favorite male, nice and big with decent markings. We hope he chooses a mate with a better zipper, although he may also have some good zipper genes in his code. ;)

#5 This is Baby Boy. He is another small-ish koi, but he, too, has wonderful form and skin and his ki is what friend, Wayne, describes as "Atomic."

# 6 A gorgeous young lady! We call her Beyonce. She has lovely form, skin, and markings. A bit small but, when/if she mates with a larger boy, the offspring will benefit. Crazy about this koi!

# 7 Tubs of young fish, some from the reboot of the ki shusui project, and some product of a "flock spawn." That is, the fish chose their own dance partners in an uncontrolled spawn. The parent fish were all ki shusui, shusui, hariwake, doitsu yellow ogon, midori and ayawakaba. We will get another look at them in May 2016 and see if there are potential winners there.
